Down Syndrome Doesn't Stop Teen from Earning Two Varsity Letters

Brad Hennefer is a high school senior. After playing 4 years of high school basketball, he made the shot of a lifetime. Three seconds on the clock, and a perfect 3 pointer. His parents cheered. The crowd cheered. The team cheered. Even the opposing team cheered. And Brad lived a dream. Now Brad will go on to other dreams, including college.

Sounds typical, yet doctors all over the world say that Brad's life is not worth anything, that he shouldn't even be alive today. They say that "people like him" will have no quality of life. Brad happens to have Down syndrome... and something tells me that Brad, and everyone who witnessed that basketball game, would have to disagree with those doctors.

Hi Renee, glad you enjoyed the story, I thought of Kennedy as soon as I read it. I think she can also go very far in life. I have another more personal story to share. My daughter is now 24 but she graduated from high school with a girl with down syndrome. I think her name was Teresa. Teresa didn't win any sports awards or awards for high grades but Teresa left her mark on that class. She would go up and hug them, boys and girls alike and tell them she loved them. Some of the boys who you would not think would do it would call her their girl friend. Not making fun as some would think because every kid in that class would defend her if the need arose. Graduation night, they called her name and she walked up on stage to receive her diploma and her class gave her a standing ovation. It was awesome to see, those kids adored her as much as she did them. Give Kennedy a big hug for me. I've read her carepage for months but don't always leave messages on "my kids" pages, but I check up on them frequently. Hope all of them are feeling better. God Bless!!! Linda (KY)

I saw this on the local news the other night and was going to email you, but I haven't had a chance. What a great story--I can't wait to see what Kennedy will do in the future (maybe World's Strongest Woman, after Wednesday's photo, lol).

Great story. "People like these" is one my least favorite statements!
