Home from Surgery

Thank you for praying! Kennedy's surgery went well. She woke up great, drank a lot and we were out of there quickly, which is always nice! Her GI said that she has a lot of compacted stool in her... which is crazy since she's been having massive diarrhea for the last few months! She said that the diarrhea has been coming out around the blockage. SO she will go back on Miralax, which just seems insane to me. Let's give a child with diarrhea a laxative. I mean, I get it, really. It's just the whole concept of it... and the fact that she's REALLY going to explode scares me! LOL

She also said that part of her intestines look rough... I can't remember her exact words, but basically it doesn't look like it's supposed to. She took biopsies and we'll get the results in a week. She's thinking it's very possible that she has Celiac's Disease. We knew this was coming, they told us it was going to happen eventually but we were hoping it would be YEARS from now. This means she will have to go on a gluten-free diet (no wheat, rye or barley). We actually had her on this diet last year with the reasoning that when she DID end up with Celiac's we wouldn't have to pull all her favorite foods away from her, but when she got Leukemia and had to go on a neutropenic diet we let her eat gluten again because otherwise she'd never be able to eat anything! Now of course she's loving her chicken nuggets, mac and cheese and bread again so it's not going to be a fun transition! I guess we'll find out for sure next Wednesday.

Keeghan had a good time playing with his friend Ben... and I think Angela realized she NEVER wants twins! LOL Thanks Angela for keeping him for me! Kass and Kam had fun at the airport with my mom and have been bothering... I mean bonding with... my brother and his girlfriend all afternoon. :)

I posted more pictures on my blog just a few seconds ago. These are from the Gilda's Club Christmas party. Pictures from Christmas coming SOON, really!

Thanks so much for praying!

I am thankful for the staff in the PACU (recovery room) at Vandy. They know us by name now... which is scary... but they take SUCH good care of Kennedy!
