A Kennedy Update

So Deb over at Three Weddings asked how Kennedy was doing, and yes, she does have a CarePage with the site name KennedyGarcia but yes, you do have to sign up. SO for anyone out there who doesn't want to mess with another password, here's the latest in a nutshell.

Kennedy is still in remission from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Her chemo ended on September 17. She's been doing pretty well since then, she got adno-virus right before Christmas, but she fought it off well. The only ongoing problem has been constant diarrhea full of mucous (sorry, TMI this early in the morning, I'm sure!).

On January 3rd she had a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy to see if there was a cause for it. They found quite a bit of compacted stool that they said the diarrhea was coming out around, so we flushed her with miralax and she exploded, of course. Now that she's all cleaned out though her GI wants me to continue with the Miralax twice a day (that's twice the adult daily dose) so I'm currently waiting for another explosion. We'll see. I just have a bad feeling more is going on that we realize. They also tested her for Celiac's Disease since she has the gene for it but that came back negative, thank God!

As far as her leukemia, we go to the hem/onc clinic once a month now to check her counts and just make sure everything looks ok. We just pray hard she will never relapse.

There's my nutshell! LOL For (more) detailed stuff, feel free to sign up for her carepage, it will email you each time I update.

Thanks so much for the update. You're right, that is a lot of Miralax! I hope that it all clears up for her. Poor little baby. I think I'll check out the care pages again.

Miralax is a blessing . . . and a curse sometimes for these poor kids. My Keeghan had to use it when he was on chemo. I can't imagine having to go through all that with one as young as Kennedy! I have a very good friend here in DC whose daughter was diagnosed with AML when she was 11-months-old. Alexis is now 2.5. It has to be so difficult when you can't really explain to the child why they're having to do all of this stuff.

Great news! I'm so happy she has remained in remission. And yay for no Celiac!
