"Well it's a tumor"

There's a phrase you never want to hear from a doctor, especially when it's regarding your child and especially when you've been submerged into the world of cancer already!

Keeghan has a spot on his chest that showed up when he was about 2 months old. Sometimes it blisteres up and bothers him, other times it's just there. His pediatrician said we would keep an eye on it and we left it at that.

On Friday I had Keeghan seen by another doctor for an ear check and he asked about the spot, I said that we didn't know what it was and that his ped was watching it and told him about it.

"Oh," he said, "It's a tumor." Before I passed out cold he quickly said, "But it's not cancerous!" I think a few minutes later I was able to breathe again.

So this spot that he has is called Solitary Mastocytoma. The doctor said it SHOULD go away on its own, but we should avoid rubbing it as it can release allergens into the blood that can cause problems. So I said, "You mean we can't sit around at night and rub Keeghan's spot for fun anymore?!" Then I think HE was going to pass out! LOL "Kidding," I said, "Just kidding." WOW how warped my sense of humor has become!

See the spot in the middle of his chest? It's not too bad right now, but you should see it when it get irritated. NOT pretty! He said if Keeghan gets more of these spots we'll have to go see dermatology. Why can't life just be boring?!

DJ has a spot similar to that on his shoulder blade, no one ever told us anything like that! But I have never seem it flare up like you described either, so maybe its not the same? Hugs for the scare.

I could swear I was JUST saying that doctor's need to learn how to communicate better. He could have said, "It's a non-cancerous tumor," but no, he has to start with the bad THEN go to the good. He gave me a scare as well!

So glad it's not a big, big deal.

Ok...had to comment again. First...I will be praying for you during this time your husband is deployed. My dad's a military man and I know how hard that can be on a family. You are so positive and you are an inspiration!!
Second...I live outside of Little Rock and LOVE the WonderPlace! I've taken my nieces there and they loved it. So glad that you were able to enjoy it while in AR! Also, went to SS live a couple of weeks ago!

You honest to God almost gave me a heart attack when I started reading your post. Kids just have to make life a LITTLE more interesting don't they!
Praying that it goes away and nothing more becomes of it.

Geez - why couldn't the doc have said it in a way that wouldn't have made you pass out! I'm glad that it isn't cancerous and I hope it just goes away on it's own and you have many boring moments ahead :)

Well I almost fainted when I read your title! I'm so glad it's not something to worry about. Doctor's sure don't make it easy not worry though.

Heart -- start -- beating -- again! You poor thing! I'd like to hear something good about a doctor just once! And am I missing something or what is an ENT (if that's what he was) telling you about a tumor on the chest and why didn't your pedi not tell you to leave it alone? Doctors! Arrgh! I think they have to check their compassion at the med school door. I'm so glad it was nothing serious and way to go on the rubbing it comment :) Keeping you and your family in my prayers!

Yikes, that could have been scary! I think he should have said the "It's not cancerous ..." part first! That little boy is so incredibly beautiful!

It wasn't an ENT, it was a regular ped, just a different one than we usually see. I'm thinking our regular ped had no idea what it was or she would have told me. She's actually really good. But yeah, this other guy could have told me in a different way that wouldn't have caused me a stroke! LOL Men. HA!
