How I almost broke my baby

So I sat on hold with ENT for an hour and a half yesterday... (yes, you read that right. I'm a chump and REALLY believed I was the next person in line!) I never did get a live person. Imagine that. GRR I finally gave up and called back to the pediatrician's office, who I had called earlier in the day, but they said since Keeghan had tubes, I had to call ENT. Once I explained that the ENT people left me waiting so long, they helped me. THEN ENT called me at 8:30 this morning. "How can we help you with Keeghan?" They asked. Hmmm "Well," I replied, "Yesterday, when I was on hold for ninety minutes, I needed you urgently. Since you decided to leave me hanging, I found my answers elsewhere." I thought maybe they would feel bad, or be apologetic, SOMETHING to compensate my wasted time and wasted cell phone minutes. Instead, she said, "Oh I'm glad you got an answer." *click* I stared at the phone like, "SERIOUSLY?! I can't believe they hung up on me!" I'll be making that lady a sign.

So, what did I do, you ask?! WELL... I am using ear drops on Keeghan right now because his ears are full of junk. The tubes are doing their job and draining, but we just have to get them cleared up now. Sunday night after his bath I asked Kassidy to bring me his ear drops. She brought me the bottle, I put a few drops in each ear and got his jammies on. About 30 minutes later I noticed the bottle still sitting on the floor and picked it up to put it away... then I looked at the bottle closer and said, "OH no!" Kassidy accidentally picked up the wrong bottle... and I didn't even THINK to check it. SO Keeghan got Visine drops in his ears. Ohhh I felt horrible! Kassidy felt horrible too even though I assured her over and over that it WASN'T her fault! I called a pharmacist and he said it should be fine so I tried not to worry, but Keeghan had a horrible night and then the next day he kept slapping his head right over his ears and was really fussy. SO the ped's office told me to check with ENT and well, you know the rest.

Fortunately he slept great last night and was fine today. I just can't believe I did that! The nurse in the ped's office called poison control and they too said it was no big deal. Live and learn I guess! It's a mistake I won't make again!

I'm so glad he's doing okay! And it's an honest mistake.

I just have to tell you, too - I love the Michigan shirt!!!

Poor baby, I bet his ears aren't red now, huh? LOL, but seriously, I am glad it wasn't serious and 90 minutes?? That's insane!

Not that it will do you any good, but you might consider writing a complaint to the ENT's office. That was poorly handled by them on SO many levels.

Glad Keeghan is doing better. I'd tell you a story I did to Peanut recently but I'm too horrified to share it with ANYONE in fear of being reported. Suffice it to say, we all make mistakes from time to time. We just have to be grateful nothing bad happened and move on.

I'm so glad Keeghan is okay...just think, that's probably better than putting ear drops in his eyes, right?

I can't believe the ENT's office...one of the reasons I won't switch my primary care dr, even though she's 40 minutes away...in addition to being a great dr, she's got intelligent, customer-oriented staff! Imagine that!

Oh jeez... I'm not one to talk about "breaking your baby" since my 5 month old (then 3 months) got second degree burns on her fingers on a radiator at her own baptism, mmm kay? Glad everything turned out OK. That office should be ashamed of themselves!!

I'm glad he's okay, that sounds like an easy mistake to make. The office sounds terrible, and I think you should write a letter.

Sounds like it's time for a new ENT! We have a great one! It will only take you 7 hours to get here. :-)

OK wish I had called you!!! We had something like this happen kind of...I gave Arthur EAR drops and EYE drops to give William well....He put the ear in the eye and the eye in the ear! The ear drops were more like a gel so, Artuhr said he had a hard time getting it to stay in the eye..I was like really?? Then Willaim began to freak out on us!!!! I was like what is the deal , Arthur then showed me which ones he put in the eye...I just assumed he knew and the labels looked the same. We had to go to the ER and have his eyes flushed..FUN,FUN! (Of course this was the second time William had had his eyes flushed the first time was from SHOUT srayed from his brothers...surprised he can see now..LOL!) Well, the ER doctor said you and use any eye stuff in the ear, just not ear stuff in the eyes! Well that was a long winded story and yes in the ER Arthur and I felt like the parents with the sign around our neck that said DUH! So glad he isn't broken, he's just to cute to be messed up!

I am glad that Keeghan is ok! Big hugs to you and Kassidy.

The ENT's office needs a nice long strongly worded letter.

You wonder how people keep their jobs because if she was flip with you then she is like that with everyone!

So sorry for the opinions. I feel your pain.

I think I am all caught up on your posts. Have a great weekend.
