"You should totally blog that!"

So we have this little dilemma... Keeghan is too smart for his own good. We have stairs going to our top floor that Keeghan LOVES to climb, and he mastered this skill many months ago. It's not the going up that bothers me, it's the falling back down! AND I shudder to think of the millions of dangerous things he can get into up there.

The way our stairs are set up, a baby gate is not an option so we got creative and put a rubbermaid bin in front of the stairs which Keeghan used as a drum but couldn't get around it to the stairs. Problem solved. Not.

Mr. Smarty Pants figured out how to push the bin to the side and go up anyway. When he gets to the first step, he'll turn and look at me like, "Are you going to stop me?!" Then I say, "Keeghan! NO! Naughty!" And his face contorts into this horrible scowl and he lets out a little cry... and then he climbs the stairs as fast as he can. SO I grab him, swat him very lightly on the leg, say "NO!" in my firmest voice, set him down away from the stairs where he cries like his world has just ended for 5 seconds and then goes directly back to the stairs. It's fun. Not.

ANYWAY, so the title of my post comes from Kameron... he was watching this exchange between Keeghan and I last night and said, "Mom, you should TOTALLY blog that!" haha I think he needs to start his own blog.

That Kameron is one smart dude!

Could you get one of those playpen gates? Instead of a traditional gate?

Keeghan so reminds me of Caitlyn our 1 year old. Lucky we don't have stairs inside our house, but she certainly knows how to open doors and escape and totally can't handle the word "no". Aah but they are so cute!

Well, if that isn't the cutest thing. Him saying you should blog that!!

Sounds like you needed something funny with the week you have had recently. Hope things start looking up for you soon!

And at the very least Keeghan will stay off the stairs! :-)

I love it, Kameron is to smart and it seems like the fun has just begun! #9 Wesley has been our pistol, walking at 9mo. and climbing on the lego table to STAND at 10mo. One thing about it, you won't need to go to the "Y" for a workout, you can get it right at home...LOL! Good Luck!

Stinker! We have the same problem with our stairs to the basement (the fun place where the swing and toys live)... there is no place to put a gate. So we had a permanent one built in. It sorta looks like a picket fence half door but solid and Sam proof...and fingers crossed Sean proof too. Good times.

I hope you find a way to keep him off the stairs - some sort of creative gate maybe?

Dominic is always telling me to blog things too.

Gotta love that age! Old enough to know what they want, and too young to be reasonable! :) This too shall pass.

My kids all loved the stairs and there was no where to put a gate on them either. so I just taught them how to come down backwards.

it only took a few days of pulling them down backwards carefully when they went up each time. and I didn't have to worry about them anymore when we went to other peoples houses with stairs.

it got to the stage where my youngest would just flatten himself out like a board and surf right down our wooden stairs. so much quicker than crawling. lol.
