Need a tan?!

So when Kennedy and I were getting our hair done, our hairdresser told me that last week two women left their kids in their cars while they went to tan at the tanning salon next door. There were 4 kids ages 3 weeks up to about 2 years! One of the ladies in the hair salon called the cops... who took over 10 minutes to respond.

When the policeman arrived he found one of the cars running with the doors unlocked! One of the toddlers was rolling all over the car and the cop found a knife under the front seat! What if the child had found that knife?! Makes me shudder to think about it.

So the cop pulled the two ladies out of the tanning salon and asked what the heck they were thinking... their response? They didn't have a choice because their husbands are in Iraq. (And Heaven forbid they don't have a TAN!) The cop then told them he hoped that tan was worth it because they were both under arrest. Only then did one of the mothers get upset.

I can't imagine their husbands getting THAT message from their commanding officer: "Soldier, your wife has been arrested for child endangerment for leaving your child alone in a hot car, which was running... unlocked... while she got a TAN." They must be so proud.

You can read a little about it here and it turns out, this wasn't the first time in Clarksville this year.

Moms like this infuriate me! I don't know what else to say- what a shame for these poor children.

Been thinking about you and your trip. Good luck, try to have a fun weekend as a family without too much worry of what is to come next week. I'll continue to pray for you all!

I'm glad the kids are OK! Some people really seem to lack street smarts. I wouldnt even leave a pet in a car alone for a tan, those things take at least 15 minutes!

Ugh, isn't that just sad? And what would they have done if they came out and their car was gone? Or their toddler had somehow managed to get that car in drive and "drove" the car into something or someone. I swear some people. It's stories like these that always make me think. There are people in this world who can't have children of their own and desperately want children of their own. So they go for adoption which is such a long process and they have all these hoops to jump through to make sure they are fit parents and then people like this just get to have kids. Thank God someone called the police! Thank God the police arrived before they left! Thank God those women were arrested! Thank God the children were okay!

What is wrong with people? Sheesh, I wouldn't leave my kids alone in the car if I was taking my bleeding self into the ER, so for a TAN?!

Again - good luck and prayers tomorrow!!

Why didn't the ladies go one at a time and the other watch the kids? I always feel bad when I hear of these stories when people have forgotten that their kids were with them and the child dies. It came so close to happening to Gabi when she was a baby and we lived in Florida. Gabi was always so quiet and my dad doesn't usually take her to the daycare before work. He worked in Key Largo which was 45 minutes away, and Gabi finally made a small sound just as he was pulling into his job. It was the middle of the summer and she would have surely died. My dad felt awful even though it was just a close call. Cases like the one you wrote about make me furious! SO glad that someone was not afraid to call the police. It could have been a tragic event!

That is so awful! What were those ladies thinking! I hope a night in jail taught them a lesson. Stupid people!

that makes me crazy mad. And thank you very much stupid women, now after reading how stupid they are I will dream tonight that "I" left my own in the car and wake up having a nightmare. Everytime. AND why couldnt they watch each others kids while one tanned then the other. I just swear sometimes. they need the stupid crimnal award this week. Stupid stupid stupid.

oh and do you really 1) need a tan when your husbands gone and 2) need a tan when you have a 3 week old baby, I need sleep when I have a new baby and if my husband were gone so I had to do EVERYTHING by myself, I would want more sleep. Tanning would be the last thing on my list.

Grrr.....stuff like this makes me so mad!!! These are the idiots that give all military spouses a bad name. And oh my, I bet their poor husbands will be furious! You are right, I can't even imagine how that conversation went with their CoC.
Maybe you should go down to the local jail and tell these ladies that the Army provides hourly care for things like tanning appointments....and certain times of the week, it's even FREE if the child has a parent that's deployed!

See, this is one instance when wife beating wouldn't be such a very bad thing. Maybe. Ugh.
