Kennedy update - The good and the bad of it

OK so there's good news and bad news...
The good news is, the pins are not infected! YAY!
The bad news is, the peroxide seems to be eating away at her skin, even diluted to half strength.
The good news is, we no longer have to clean her pins every day... just every other day with 1/4 strength peroxide.
The bad news is this opens her up to a greater risk of infection and letting her skin grow up around the pins.

The good/bad news is that if this continues the halo may have to come off earlier than her surgeon would have liked...
This is good of course because she can get OUT of the stupid thing...
Bad because we don't want to run the risk of undoing all the work they did for her surgery.

The good news is we got out of the appointment in less than 45 minutes... there's something to be said for being the early bird :)...
the bad news is we had to wake up at 6am after 3 weeks of sleeping till 9 or later... I'm beat! hahaha

Please continue to pray for Kennedy and that this new plan works to heal the back of her little head. We go back to see Dr. Samdani on Wednesday for one last check up before we fly home. Kennedy and I have to come back up in about 3 weeks for her to be seen again.

Pictures coming soon, promise!

DId you ask about that stuff Darla was talking about again and why he said you couldn't use it? Wonder if that would help out with the skin not adhereing to the pins. I am so happy you don't have to put her (or you) through that everyday anymore. FUnny I had to get up at 6 today too to take the truck in to get fixed!

I think the good news overshadows the bad news, except if they take the halo off early and things are not healed as they should be. You only have this week left up there, right? I bet you are SO excited!

So glad that there is no infection and you can cut back on the cleanings. We will be praying that infection does not develop with this new plan and that she does indeed get to come out of the halo early - with everything completely healed!

Nothing ever seems to go according to plan does it? :)

Glad you got some answers. Isn't there something else you could put on them to keep them from becoming infected besides peroxide though? Hopefully they get better. It's always something, right? I am sure it will be nice to get home in a week. Lets just hope she can keep the halo on long enough for her to heal properly. If she doesn't would she have to wear the neck brace forever instead?

Here's to no infection and continued successful healing. You're in the homestretch now, as in almost home!

SOOOOO happy it's not infected and that you don't have to keep cleaning them so often. We'll still keep it at the top of our prayers.

Prayers for Kennedy. Just recently I put Neosporing on my son's infected toe nail and it got worse. Dr. said he may have been allergic to the neosporin. I had never heard of that before. Hopefully, diluting the peroxide will work. Hugs to you and your family.................

Phew! That's a relief that it's not infected. I hope you are able to find just the right mix of peroxide soon and that the dry skin comes to an end.

I know what you mean - my bloglines had way too many posts when I got back from Boston! I've been keeping Kennedy in my prayers and glad to hear the pin wasn't infected. Praying everything heals like it's supposed to!

Hey Renee,
So glad to hear that the pins aren't infected. I was going to write to you yesterday to suggest the peroxide, I remembered that my daughter used to swell up and go icky whenever she put peroxide on her piercings (yuk). We ended up using methylated spirits (do you have that in US?) mind you, You prob can't use it on pins. Try Manuka Honey, it's fantastic. Perhaps you can get that there?? I use it all the time from piercings to umbilical cords! (dont ask LOL)

Glad to hear it's not an infection. Hopefully the new plan will work without any more problems.

Is Frank flying home with you on Wednesday or does he have to go back?

Well that's good! And... that's bad! Hmm can you use Betadine? My mom was diabetic and had wound problems and I know she used it. Just looked it up and it says it's an iodine solution? Sorry I don't really know... glad to know what to pray for though!
