Kennedy update - Saturday morning

Kennedy had a good night, her fever broke again and she slept well except for when her nurse had to come and turn her. She's a trooper though and always goes right back to sleep. They are doing a good job of keeping her oral pain meds coming ahead of the pain, so I think that contributed to her restful night.

They came in this morning and took the drain out of her head. Now she has 2 more days of IV antibiotics and then she can switch to oral and get those IVs OUT! They are going to do blood and urine cultures today to make sure her fever is not due to infection starting somewhere. I did talk them into bagging her instead of doing a catheter for her urine but if the sample from the bag shows infection they'll have to cath her. She'll be thrilled, I'm sure.

PT should be by in awhile. The doctors really want her up on her feet today. I told them that may be a little unrealistic being that she couldn't even sit unassisted yesterday. We'll take it one day at a time. I don't want them to push her too hard.

Anyway, right now, Kennedy is in bed watching Signing Time and eating apples grapes. Please pray for a pain free day; and pray that her fever doesn't climb again today, and for clear cultures!

That's good that the fever seems to have gone away. I'm sure the PT's won't do anything with her that they don't think she can handle though. Maybe since she had a good nights sleep she will be able to get up on her feet today though. Fingers crossed that she does well with PT. Hoping she doesn't need to be cathed again and that there's no infection.

Kennedy and Jenny and Mikey all share the same reasoning. Mikey and Jenny always go back and forth about calling grapes apples. You just made my day to know we are not alone in this ongoing argument between grape and apple. Know we are praying and my heart hurts for all that sweet precious girl has had to go through. Give her hugs and love if you can! How long will she wear the halo? You are an amazing woman and I am so lucky to call you friend.

Hugs

Glad to hear little Miss Kennedy had a restful night! Also, happy to hear she is enjoying those apples...LOL!

How's the rest of the family doing? We were wondering if Kass, Kam and Keeghan were scared to see Kennedy this way.

Praying for a pain free day and NO MORE FEVERS!!

Hugs,
Joany and Carly

Signing Time is the best isn't it? It entertained Lexy so much while she was in the hospital. My family will be praying for a pain and fever free day. One step at a time is all she can do, so Mommy knows best. Take care!

I hope she makes some progress with the therapist. I have to go back and read about sitting. So do they turn her onto her side and stuff or what? Doesn't that throw off the angle of her neck and head? Ouch. :(

Just getting a chance to check in (and finally comment!) since we're back from our vacation...kept Kennedy in my prayers that the fever wasn't anything serious. Praying she'll continue to get stronger every day and will be sitting up on her own soon, and then on to the walking. I can't imagine how that must feel to learn to walk again with the halo on her head!
