Question of the Day #12

What is your favorite Christmas Carol?

I love love love Christmas music! I love that Mix 92.9 plays nothing BUT Christmas music from Thanksgiving Day through January 1st! I can't really think of any carols that I don't like, but here are some of my favs!

1. Silver Bells (This has been one of my favorites since I was a little girl)

2. Carol of the Bells (This has been on my favorite list since college when we got to sing it in choir. Now Frank and I sing it just to see who messes up first! haha)

3. What Child is This? (I really think this needs to be number 1... hmmm)

4. Do You Hear What I Hear? (I catch myself singing this song all year around... Kassidy teases me lol)

5. Up On The House Top, It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas, Sleigh Ride! (Because they're fun!)

Then my two favorite "newer" songs (which means they weren't around until I got into high school) are Breath of Heaven (which I've sung solo a few times... once when I was pregnant... and WAY too emotional to sing a song like that, but it will ALWAYS be my friend Heather's song in my mind) and My Grown Up Christmas List (which I've also sung solo a few times...) now I just sing in the car and the shower! HA!

SO Tell me your favorites! I'll take the top 10 Carols and put them into a poll for you all to vote on and we can determine the number 1 Carol for this blog!

Have you ever heard the song called "Spirit of Christmas?" If you like Christmas movies, it is the song that is playing when Chevy Chase is locked in the attic during the movie "Christmas Vacation." It is my all-time favorite. The message is that we should keep the spirit of Christmas alive all year.

Silver Bells is my favorite too!!! I also love "Do They Know it's Christmas" by Band-Aid. And you know, it really is hard to pick just one. I love Oh Come All Ye Faithful, and O Holy Night as well. I am such a sucker for Christmas music, I would listen to it all year long if I could.

I love Breathe of Heaven my Mum had it on a CD that she used to play at Christmas - it also had "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" we would have it on while we put up the tree!

My fvorite, and it's "newer" than the traditional ones is "Christmas Shoes". I don't know who sings it, but every time I hear it, I make everyone be quiet so I can listen to it. It makes me tear up every time.

My favorite is "I'll be home for Christmas" because I am so far away from my family out here in Cali and that song reminds me that I am there in my heart when I can't be there in my body!

In no particular order:
1.O come O come Emmanuel
2.Baby it's cold outside
3.The First Noel
4.Christmas in the Northwest (because I live in the NW and it's a gift god wrapped in green :)
5.Away in a manger
6.Silent night: With out fail, I can sing this to any crying baby, or sad toddler, and they calm down. It's the one I rock my nephew to sleep with. The 3 year old I babysitt has to be hummed "rock a by baby"devery night. When I have her at night, I hum silent night, and she loves it....the funny part is, when her grandma comes over and doesn't hum the same song as her Mom, she tells her grandma it's the wrong song, she has never said that to me though!
7. and finally, a whole c.d. of "twisted christmas carols" my uncle gave me the christmas before he died, with silly spins on classis like "the 12 days of Christmas"

I LOVE Christmas carols!

Alright, I must be a scrooge or something because I really can't stand Christmas music, in general. I don't know if my mom really over-did it when I was a kid or it's too many solos at church or what but it really gets on my nerves! Now, I have to say that the newer ones aren't quite as annoying, but still I'm not a real fan. I have also sang Christmas List as well as Christmas Shoes (which is by New Song, by the way). I've done it all growing up, but when given a choice I would choose NOT to listen to it! I know, I'm going to go crawl into my corner somewhere. What I want to know is, does that mean something's wrong with me? lol

Is Breath of Heaven the one worship song? Not necessarily a Christmas song? Funnily enough, I sang that one pregnant as well! In fact, I nearly DIDN'T sing it lol! I wanted to throw up!

My favorite of all time is Silver Bells. Each year on Christmas Eve, my family would all sit around the tree, in the dark, with only the tree lights on and my mom would play the piano and I would sing Silver Bells for everyone....however, since The Christmas Shoes song came out a couple years ago...that has taken 1st place for me. I still cry every single time i hear it.

I also like What Child is This? That's one of my favorites. I used to be able to play it on the piano.

I also like Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and the Barking Dogs.

I have to share a story about The Little Drummer Boy.

I listen to K-Love, and the other day they played The Little Drummer Boy. There is a line in the song that goes "I gave my best for Him". Well, after that song played, a woman called in, and she said that she had gathered up some coats to take to Goodwill or somewhere, and as she left her house, she heard the song. When she heard the part, "I gave my best for Him", she said she realized she hadn't given her best for Him, & so she turned around, went home, and got a few more "better" coats to give, so that she COULD give her best for Him.

Isn't that a neat story? May we ALL give our best to Him this Christmas.

I'm glad that someone finally said The Little Drummer Boy! I love that he didn't feel that he had anything worthy to give a king. But, then he found a way to give of himself!

Goosebumps!

"Mary Did You Know?" is my absolute favorite. I can't even imagine what Mary must have been thinking holding Jesus in her arms. I always wonder, did she have any idea what that baby was sent to earth to do. And that song always challenges me as a mother...do any of us know the impact our child might have on the world?
I also love "O Holy Night" and one off the radio that I love is "Christmas in Dixie".

I heard one yesterday is is also on my favorite list: "All I want for Christmas is a family" by Steven Curtis Chapman!

Finally catching up on all your posts..is it too late to send this in? Anyway, I love Christmas music too, and my 2 top favorites are "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Mary did you know??"
I will never forget when you were little (about 5 I think) we were driving down the freeway in Southern CA singing "Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas" and you asked me "Mom...when we sing "take a look at the 5 and 10.." are they talking about the FREEWAYS?? LOL...I had to explain what dime stores were..I always treasured our times of singing in the car...
Love, Mom
