See those spots? Those are just a FEW of the lady bugs that have invaded the girls bedroom. These are the cause of Kennedy freaking out every night for the last 4 nights crying, "BEES!" These are the cause of Kameron coming upstairs to borrow my shoe so he can smash the "bees" all over my carpet. These are the cause of Frank dragging the vacuum cleaner down the stairs every night so I can vacuum up the scary "bees" so Kennedy will stop freaking out and go to sleep. And they won't go away. Every day there are more. Every day Kennedy gets more scared. We can't convince her they're not bees. Welcome to Spring in Tennessee.

We had an infestation of lady bugs a few years back in our old apartment. They drove me crazy, but exterminators won't do anything for them (at least not in Maryland) because they are beneficial bugs (whatever that means). But if it makes you feel any better, they say lady bugs bring good luck. From the looks of it, now you'll have PLENTY of good luck! :)
Oh, we get them something awful here too. Spring and fall. The front of our house was literally covered with them the week before Ava was born (late October) and Arline told me we would be very lucky... we were!
I'm sorry Kennedy is scared, poor thing. They will go away, but not soon enough...
Renee, couldn't help but smile and laugh at the post! Poor Kennedy :( Madison would be freaking out too!
Yes these Ladybugs are beneficial (according to some crazy people lol) and they were purposely imported to the US. IF you smash them they let off a horrid smell and that smell attracts more and more, so DO NOT smash them!!! Just suck them up with the vacuum! And they don't bite BUT they do pinch YIKES!
Awwwwww Janice used to call EVERY bug a bee too. Even plain ol flies LOL.
Grubs attract ladybugs, or the opposite? I just know we had so many ladybugs my husbands white box truck looked black. Our farmer friends said treat for the grubs.
Ladybug heaven....my girls would be so excited to have them all over. However I would not like them in my house either....they do have a terrible odor too. I hope the lady bug season is over soon for you. Do you all get love bugs? we get them and they are absolutely disgusting! It is 2 bugs and they are connected both puling in oposite directions (google it if you want to see then..gross)GOod lucky with the Lady bugs
Same thing here!!! But even worse are love bugs!!!!!
Wow. That's a lot of lady bugs! I don't think I'd sleep too well either if I were her!
Yuck...I hate bugs of any kind!! We had a ton of them here too a few years back. I think they were imported to help get rid of some other bug problem. Can't remember. They are beneficial I hear too...but who knows for what, and who cares! $100 bills are beneficial for ME, but I don't see any of those plastered all over my house!

Thought this might be helpful...I've dealt with them before....
sorry to be anonymous, I don't have a blog name or anything.
I've been there with the lady bugs one year. Last year was the stink bug attack. Fingers crossed for an insect-free spring house!
By the way, I nominated you for an award on my blog.
we live in South Carolina and were infested with them. They are all in the bed when we wake up and crawling on the walls.
Hugs
Amy
Oh no at least it's not bees. We had that happen last year I think. So strange. All the windows were closed, but there were ladybugs everywhere. We swear it's because of our landlords garden (ie farm he has erected so we no longer have a yard for the kids to play in). That's the only thing we could figure because it never happened until he went overboard with the garden thing. Never could figure out how the silly little buggers were getting in either. Maybe you could get a book on lady bugs to show Kennedy they are harmless.
At least you know Spring is on its way!
We had a bad infestation of ladybugs a few years ago. We have a drop ceiling in our finished basement and I think the entire county's ladybugs decided to stay there.
We were throwing them outside by the handfuls and shaking them out of our computer keyboards!
They're in KY, too! I've dealt with them this time since Dec! I'm having a bridal luncheon here tomorrow.....have this horrid picture in my mind of one flying into someone's chicken salad! Tell Kennedy I hate them, too!
Because they are in your house I am guessing they are Mexican Bean Beetles, not Lady Bugs. You can tell by the color and number of spots. Also, do they stink when you kill them? MBB go inside to hibernate in the fall (Octoberish) because they like caves and are now coming out. They actually destroy crops (soybeans). If they are MBB and you kill them the smell attracts more. We vacuum them up when we have them rather than smash them. Also, when they land on you, unlike lady bugs, they kind of pinch you a little bit. About 8 years of so ago they invaded Indiana and my class did a huge study of them because they were all over our school. I know more about them then I want. Look them up on Google 8- )
We have the same ladybug issue, someone told me they bring good luck!
I remember that from when we lived in North Alabama.
My question is...how in the world are they getting in? Quick, go block that entrance!
I've never seen so many ladybugs in one place INSIDE before!
here's a random old wives tale from all those mountain people I do home health with (their words, not mine...I've never tried it, but probably will this year)...they said to take a gallon ziploc bag, fill it with water, then tie it up outside a couple of entrances to your house. (a bunch of them have these tied up outside, and I finally asked somebody why) Bugs will think it's a hornet's nest and stay away from your house. I figure it's worth a try, anyway. If you try it, let me know if it works! ;)
I have a couple of solutions. And I've been pinched or bit or whatever on the lip and if that happened to Kennedy she's got a valid fear; it can sting.
1) (from an exterminator) Get a small vacuum dedicated to this purpose. Use the hose attachment to suck them up, then cover the end with a plastic bag rubberbanded in place to keep them from getting out. Empty the vaccuum frequently. (I think they said every time).
2) I found a device at Ace Hardware that works REALLY well. It is a jar-thing with a black light and a pheromone that attracts the bugs (who are fake lady-bugs). When they come into the jar they go into a tube of soapy water which kills them. I unfortunately got this for someone else (I don't have the buggers that badly) and don't know the name.
I know that a local university here in SC releases tons of ladybugs every year, again because they are helpful bugs. Apparently, here in SC, it is "illegal" to kill them! But they sure are a pain!
You can catch them and sned them here, we have aphids all over the roses, adn I was going to buy ladybugs!
Meghan would not like them either.
We live in central Florida and the ladybugs are BAD here too, for months now.
We have lovebugs that blow up here twicw a year like clockwork, but this is the first time we've ever been invaded by ladybugs, hmmm...
