So there's this story about this woman who went to McDonald's and ordered chicken nuggets. They took her money and then told her they were out of chicken nuggets and offered her a cheeseburger instead. She didn't want a cheeseburger. She ordered chicken nuggets. She paid for chicken nuggets. So, she said "nevermind" and asked for her money back.
Yeah. McDonald's would not give her money back. They said refunds were against their policy. So, what did she do? She called 911. Three times. Seriously.
“This is an emergency, If I would have known they didn’t have McNuggets, I wouldn’t have given my money, and now she wants to give me a McDouble, but I don’t want one,” Latreasa L. Goodman told police. “This is an emergency.”
Now she's going to court for misuse of the 911 system.
So here are my thoughts on this. Read the story, and then let me know your opinion too.
The 911 service is for emergencies. Obviously. However, McDonald's took her money. They did not give her what she paid for, and then they refused to give her money back to her. If she would have walked in and stolen those chicken nuggets, what do you think McDonald's would have done? They would have called the police right? Granted, they probably wouldn't have called 911 unless she had a weapon, but I'm pretty sure this woman didn't know the number for the local police station off the top of her head.
On the other hand, why did she call three times? Was that really necessary? The 911 dispatcher told her that an officer was en route to her location. Why call back? Maybe they weren't getting there fast enough? I don't know.
What it really boils down to though is if she wanted a refund, give her a freaking refund! It's not like she was asking for double her money back. She didn't eat 9 of the nuggets and try to return the 10th. It's not like this was an expensive item. She didn't get what she paid for and simply wanted her money back. She probably would have headed to Burger King to get nuggets there and all would have been right with the world. So whether you agree with what this woman did or not, the McDonald's employee was an idiot. And where was the manager?
Turns out she did get her refund, and a card for a complimentary meal as well. Maybe she can go eat at McDonald's when she gets out of court. *sigh*

That is hilarious!! I agree - just give her her money back people - she didn't get what she ordered....But calling three times is a bit ridiculous on her part!
Thanks for the chuckle!
HA HA HA...people have too much time on their hands...they should have given her a refund but if it was me I would have just left the $3 and gone to Burger King anyway :)
Why on earth did they take her money for chicken nuggets if they didn't have any - mad! They should have instantly issued her with a refund. However, calling 911 is a bit over the top, I think I would have made a formal complaint to head office and contacted the local newspaper.
I totally feel for her, but then you know my son's situation w/ McNuggets and Mcdonald's fries. LOL! A cheeseburger instead simply will not do, and while I can't say I would've called 911, I wouldn't have left without my money or McNuggets. I probably would've let my Autistic child throw his McNugget tantrum in their dining room until they happily gave me my money back, too.
I agree, though. Where was the manager during all of this? I've never heard of it being a 'policy' at a restaurant not to offer a refund, ESPECIALLY when it's the restaurant's fault!
This is too funny, for the most part. McDonald's should have given her an immediate refund. She shouldn't have called 911 THREE times(that is an abuse for a non-emergency imho) and NOW she has to pay court costs & is wasting the taxpayers time and $$ with a court proceeding. Not smart on cops(or whomever issued the summons)part either. Couldn't she have been issued a warning, a fine...but to go to court?! The whole thing is another case of abuse of the legal system! Good for a laugh though, thanks for sharing...and as usual, you're right:)
Yeah, three times was excessive. She could have called information to find out the number for the local police. McDonald's was pretty stupid here though. I mean think about it. If they had just said okay here's your money for the nuggets that we ran out of that would have been that. But now instead they ended up giving her a complimentary meal and her money back. So now they are out a lot more money. And really they would have been out nothing since they didn't give her the nuggets she paid for to begin with. So yes, I agree that she could have construed them as robbing her. Probably not an emergency and certainly not what 911 is intended for. She might not have gotten in so much trouble if she had only called once. And none at all if the reason she called the 2nd and 3rd time was because someone was threatening or putting their hands on her to try to remove her.
you are full of funny things~that is one crazy story! just don't tell ppl it was me. :0) totally kidding.lol.
I think McDonalds should pay the court fees!! SERIOUSLY!!! Or, maybe the employee who wouldn't give a refund.
I agree that McDonalds should have given her a refund. However, as the wife of a cop, who was just today talking about people who call the police for "emergencies" that are not emergencies, I do agree that she should not have called 911.
Ironically....one of the calls that my husband was complaining about today was that someone called the police station and asked for directions to McDonalds!!!!
McDonalds is the ULTIMATE wrong one.
However misuse of 911 or "failure to hang up" as it is usually charged is charged ALOT. can you imagine if you needed to get through but couldn't be cause of THIS woman. I mean call once, yeah. You don't get charged with misuse or failure to hang up, because of that. But there was NO need to call twice more!
I have friends that are cops and they tell us all the time that if you call and say that the neighbors dog pooped in your yard, they have to come. If you call and ask for the weather, or directions somewhere(and YES people do allll the time) they HAVE to come. So...they were coming...she just needed to calm down and wait! She probably would have been better off to call McDonalds corporate office or the proprietor. OHH well.
That is just craziness! How hard is it to just give someone there money back? I mean no wonder she got upset, you have to be tight with money now of days. Its not like Mcdonalds dont have enough lol. Oh well. Poor lady.

Yep -- these are the stories that clog our South Florida news ALL the time! Crazy isn't it?
You want to hear another funny story? I actually have a friend who went to McDonalds (not sure if it was the same one or not but it was in the same area) and ordered a cheeseburger. Got home - bun, ketchup, mustard, pickle and cheese...but no burger! She went back and the manager actually insinuated that she had EATEN the burger patty out of the sandwhich and was trying to get a free cheeseburger from him! True story. LOL
That is crazy. I'm sure an attorney will get a hold of that story and sue McD's for the embarassment she was faced with. They should have given her the money and that's it.
It is actually sad to see what our society has come to.
