Meet Annie! Review and Giveaway!

Meet Annie
By: Heather J. Scharlau-Hollis

I received this book a couple months ago in the mail and kind of forgot about it, but I ran across it the other day and I'm SO glad I did! This book is about Annie, a little girl with Down syndrome, who is not so different than other kids her age! She talks about her family, her feelings, her likes and dislikes. The book is 18 pages, full of animation and engages young readers. It would be perfect to take in to read to your child's class during Down syndrome awareness month or at the beginning of the school year. I am excited to be able to share this book with Kennedy's class!!!

To WIN your OWN copy of Meet Annie, just leave me a comment on this post telling me why you would love this book! For an extra entry, blog about this giveaway and leave another comment telling me you did so!

I will choose a winner using random.org on Friday August 7, 2009!

I would love to have this book to read. To teach my kids, the kids I babysit, my daughters class and family about down syndrome.

Everyyear I give a book to Lily's class and one to the school library about Ds. This would be perfect!

They have a "surprise reader" at my older daughter's school - this would be perfect for that!

Oh Renee! I would LOVE this book! It would be so benenficial for Addy in the future but I could use it now for my classroom of special needs/"typical" kids!

Oh, I do love this book! Here's why:

1) I love books, in general.
2) I love educating people, especially children, about Down syndrome so that one day the stereotypes will be a thing of the past.
3) Lucy has a typical brother, and I know one day I will be searching for resources to help him understand her better.

I have to go post on my blog now! ;o)

I would love this book to give to my little brother who will be starting 1st grade in a few weeks. I think he would like it!

Hmm... I have 3 kids, in 3 different grades, that will ALL start school in just a few weeks :) So, the math... 3 kids, 3 classes/year for at least 4 years (all are just starting school, so this would be 3rd grade for the oldest) and tapering off to 2 kids for 2 years then 1 kid for a year... that's 17 classrooms they'll be in over the next 7 years! LOL Ok, so I should just buy the book if I don't win! LOL

This book would be so wonderful for Carly's class. Most kids just don't get that Down syndrome doesn't really make you all that different.

I'll be looking to buy this book, if I don't win!

Hey, Renee! I love this giveaway. You should do more like it. There are a lot of wonderful books about children with special needs and I love them. There are some VERY goods ones about Down's and Austism. I would love to use this book in my classroom to help teach my students about how they can overcome any obstacle they set their minds to.

Give all the K's a big hug from me! I really miss seeing you guys. I love the birthday picks of Kenn and Keeghan.

Hope to see you guys soon.

I'd like to put in our schools resource library. I had a little one very special to me in my Toddler class the past two years and she's moving up to preschool. I think it would be awesome if the book could follower her from class to class and also be able to other teachers to share with their classes if they are lucky enough to have a DS child in their class.

I would love this book for Matthew to add to his library. Maybe one day we can read it in his class (when he's in school) or even suggest a Down syndrome theme at one of the Tot Time sessions at the library. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog and letting me know about this giveaway. Oh, if I get this book, I will also review it on my blog. :-)

The book sounds like it would be a great addition to our library. My older children would be able to read it and of course we would read it to our youngest.

Great giveaway! I'd bring it to Nathan's new preschool for reading time this fall. Then I'd probably donate it to the local Ds support group library for lending out to anyone who wants to read it.

Renee, I could definitely use this book with students when I get into my practicums. It could potentially provide a simplistic way to explain Ds on behalf of another student in the class so that his/her friends understand that Ds is nothing bad at all. Plus, I would love to be able to save it for my children...especially if I adopt a daughter with Ds!

PS: I linked to your post from my blog so everyone can share the love!

I just finished my doctorate in special education (I will be 45 next week). After teaching in a wonderful system for 23 years, I am moving on to teach at the college level. I am excited about this, but also sad to be leaving all my friends behind. My kids have been supportive of the move (I have 5), although the two youngest who were adopted at older ages are struggling with the disruption of routine (they both have special needs). So, I would like this book because I want to do a unit on how children with disabilities are portrayed in literature, but also because I need a little encouragement right now in my life.

OK, seriously...I never win anything so Im just going to ask where you got the book. Last year I planned on setting up a meeting with the pricipal at the girls' school, I really want to be able to give some small group talks to the kids about ds just to educate them. Our school is small (Pre-K -8th with about 700 kids) So many of the kids know us there b/c of activities we do and helping in the classroom, etc. I thought this would be a great way to teach others about ds since so many people know and love William around there....who know maybe I would be able to go to other school. I put itoff last year but this year I am determined I will get this done, and I am so excited about doing so.
