Happy Birthday Angel Matthew!

Today is Matthew Litchfield's first birthday in heaven. Matthew is one of our many Vanderbilt friends who fought cancer at the same time as Kennedy. He fought long and hard, but on October 30th last year he went home to be with Jesus. Today Matthew would be celebrating his 16th birthday... and probably getting his driver's license. *sigh* Cancer sucks.

Since we were going to Vanderbilt today anyway, Kennedy and I took donuts up to 6A (the myelosuppression unit and our home for SO long while Kennedy and Matthew both fought cancer).
We used to love when other families would bring food up and leave it for everyone, so I hope that it made some families smile today and I hope that those who knew Matthew shared some wonderful stories about him!

When we got home, the kids released 16 balloons for his birthday... in Kentucky blue of course!! Kassidy and Kameron yelled "Happy Birthday Matthew!!!" and "We hope you get these in Heaven Matthew!!"

Happy Birthday Matthew!!! I'm sure you had a party beyond any of our imaginations today! We miss you so much!!

The 16 balloons were a nice gesture too! :)

So beautiful Renee.Losing these kids, that have become part of our family, has been the single most difficult part of the journey. My heart will never, ever be the same.

What a cute post honoring a precious angel. Renee, I just have to say that I admire the ways you teach your children to have giving, gentle spirits! The doughnuts were such a wonderful idea!

Happy Birthday, Angel Matthew!

Can I still leave a comment even if Erin stole what I was going to say? LOL. Seriously, though, your kids are so fortunate to have such a compassionate and unselfish mother. You are not just teaching them to be caring and giving, you are leading by example. Hugs!
