I actually have that book somewhere! It's been around since I was a kid!
What do you like to cook for your family? You could always share some good family recipes that your kids and hubby just cant live without? How much does a normal grocery bill do u spend? Where do you shop? Coupons?
Ahhh so I HATE to cook. Hate it hate it hate it! Frank enjoys cooking (grilling really) and he makes up some yummy seasonings for meat. (Don't ask what they are because he probably couldn't tell you, he just throws a bunch of stuff together and it turns out great!) We love pork chops, spaghetti and meatballs is a regular here, rotisserie chicken, ravioli, chicken enchiladas and lasagna, mac and cheese (OF COURSE) stuff like that. We LOVE Schwans (but don't buy their meat, it's too expensive). They have lots of great meals you can just pop in the oven or easy lunch stuff you can pop in the microwave and the kids love their veggies! They come in ziplock bags and you just take out how much you need and stick the rest back in the freezer. They taste SO much better than canned! They come to our door twice a month. It's great! Their pancakes are great too! Beyond that I do all my grocery shopping at Wal-Mart and no, I don't use coupons... I just never think about it. I probably should. I'm not sure how much our normal grocery bill is... we're so sporadic about when we go and what we buy... I don't normally ever do a major grocery shopping day, I just go as needed and get what we need when we need it and then you throw Schwan's in there and it makes it hard to keep track.
Ok...I have to comment on this school supply list thing. What's with that???!!! Maybe it only happens for us in later grades, but so far we supply nothing for the kids. Nolan is going into grade 2, and Kaia into SK, and no supply lists for them ever. The first week of school we get asked (if possible) to donate $10 to the teacher for supplies, and a box of Kleenex from each kid to help get through snotty nose season....and that's it. Of course they need their own backpack and lunchbag, but no crayons, folders, pencils or anything. Maybe the school board supplies most stuff...or maybe that $10 is enough to get what the teachers need, I dunno. I couldn't imagine having to shop from a supply list like you. I'd go mad!
That's it! I'm moving to Canada! LOL Just kidding! That's crazy that you don't have to buy school supplies!
does K qualify for APE (adaptive PE)? William does not get PT anymore either b/c "he can get from place to place" Isn't that wonderful since he is doing well he wont qualify....gotta love it, NOT! I guess these people don't understand that he is doing well b/c of the therapy, so now they take it away, whatever...I'm not too bitter :) Anyway, APE focuses more on playground stuff, stairs, etc. Just wondering
I'm not sure... I've never heard of that. But I know what you mean about taking away therapies because they're doing so well. It's crazy! I will check into the APE if she seems to be having trouble on the playground!
I was wondering if you have ever blogged about the differences in the way you and your husband dealt with the news that your daughter had Down Syndrome.
I haven't done that specifically, but I can... maybe I can get Frank to blog about it too... I have done Kennedy's birth story. You can find it here.

Any more adoption updates?
Unfortunately, not a whole lot. I will get a new one posted on Kellsey's blog in the next couple days.
just curious about the name thing, is Kellsey a name that you guys chose for her to match with the other K's, or is she referred to as Kellsey at her home, but Victoria is her real name?
Victoria is her real name... we are changing it to Kellsey. Most of the families who adopt do choose to change the name of the child they adopt, for one reason or another. For us, yes, we want her to feel like she is a part of our family in every way and so like her siblings, she will have a name that starts with a K :). We have learned from the families that have gone before us that she is young enough to adapt to her name change very easily and quickly. We are hoping she will love the name Kellsey! :)
That is so cool! Did you know then that you were going to adopt a little girl named Victoria at some point in time?
Oh yes, we committed to her in November 2008 and this happened in February 2009 so the moment definitely was not lost on us! :)
I may have to borrow your term Medical Marathon Week. I have just completed a couple of those myself.
Borrow away! :) Hope your week goes well too!!!
OK, seriously...I never win anything so I'm just going to ask where you got the book.
I got it from the author, but I've heard it is on the Barnes and Noble website. You may win though! You never know! At least wait until Friday to order! :)
I know this is probably a stupid question, but is Kennedy a diabetic or is the blood sugar highs and lows a result of something else?
No, she has Keytonic Hypoglycemia which is the opposite. You can read a little more about it here. Her sugars go low, but never have been high. She's never needed insulin.
This sounds a lot like Addy when she gets the pukey sick. Her blood sugar was 14 when she had been throwing up and massive poops from Rotavirus, she ended up having multiple seizures. When she does throw up she totally zones on us, wonder if I ought to have this checked!
Probably not a bad idea Cammie! 14 is crazy low!!!
How's Kennedy been the rest of the day?
Kennedy is back to her usual spunky self! :) Just a slight bump in the road!
Come out for a visit... I will so treat you to In N Out!!! Combo, which of course you must have their yummy shakes for your drink choice!I like that a year from now ...Kellsey will be home!!
OK! We'll be there in a year! haha! I wish! :)

coupon idea -- I have my 5th grader do coupons, then she gets to keep the money. It is a great learning experience. I would much rather give it to her than to the stores. Besides, I don't have the time or energy to do them.
Adapted PE - My Kelly (who is 16 w/ DS) has never had adapted PE. She was just as tiny as Kennedy when she first started school. In fact she wore 3T's! Try finding school uniforms in Toddler sizes "back in the day"! Anyway..they did bring the school district adapted PE teacher in to watch her on the playground and in PE to give them suggestions. You might want to ask about that. We found that all the students looked out for her and made sure no one was rough with her. As one student said..."There's nothing wrong with Kelly... She's just short!"

Mom to Kelly who is entering HIGH SCHOOL in a week! YIKES!
In the UK, we don't have to buy supplies for the whole class either. If the teacher says the kids need coloured pencils of their own for a paticular reason, we'd buy them, and then just our kid would use them, the teacher wouldn't share them out, and they'd stay in the desk/come home with the specific child. Though, this only tends to happen in high school over here anyway (11/12 upwards for us), and the kids keep their pencils, pens, glue sticks etc in their bags.
I never knew anybody had to do it like you do until I read your blog, so you have enlightened me! Thanks :)
Renee, we don't buy school supplies from a list either. Now, we do have to purchase them from PTO...I think last year it was around $30, but well worth my time. :) The only thing we have to have is a backpack and a folder!
I wanted to add to my previous comment that in Primary school over here (from 5-11), you normally don't have to buy ANYTHING for your children at school equipment wise. I have a 5 and a 6 year old cousin, and all they have to take for the next year is a plastic bottle with their name on it, for water. (And all the parents re-use like a lucozade one and tape their childrens name to it, so it's not much of an expense, they don't have to have a specific bottle) Anyway, I've probably bored you silly, but the way people do things differently has fascinated me!
Hey, you don't have to go all the way to Canada, just come to Lancaster County! I keep hearing people talk about buying school supplies and it has puzzled me. We don't have to get anything, either. I bought her backpack and that was it!
