Two weeks from tonight...

We're going to be on TV! (And I'm not talking about the commercial!)

I have been meaning to get this post out for a few days now, but life has gotten in the way and I haven't taken the time to sit down and WRITE IT! A lot of you know about this already (because you're in it! LOL), a lot of you don't, so bear with me as I start from the beginning! LOL

Back in February we were put in touch with Pink Sneakers Productions who work for TLC and were looking for parents of kids with special needs for a documentary type show they wanted to air. We talked to them a little bit about it, and they said they really wanted to show the struggles AND the joys of having a child with special needs. We talked about how in our case we would be promoting Down syndrome, Childhood Cancer Awareness and International adoption of kids with special needs. So we talked a lot, sent them a video, and didn't hear anything back.

In mid-April we got a phone call from Pink Sneakers and they asked if we were still interested in doing the show. We talked a little more, and the week of May 10th, a film crew complete with 2 awesome producers and 2 awesome camera guys showed up at our house and shadowed us for a week.

They filmed life at home, went to Kennedy's therapies, her school, her cheerleading, our local Down syndrome support group, and then they just happened to be here the week of her birthday so they filmed her birthday party too! The end of the week they went to church with us where they (our church) held a bake sale for our adoption. They took TONS of footage! What they chose for the show, I have NO idea. We will get to see it when you all do. (I've been blog-sworn to secrecy all Summer and it was driving me crazy!)

We are very excited to have this opportunity to show that having a child with special needs is NOT a horrible thing. Our hope is that we will reach families who may have a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome and are scared and trying to decide what to do... or maybe their baby was just diagnosed at birth and they wonder what the future looks like, and hopefully they'll see that the future is BRIGHT!

So here are the details!

The Show:
Truth Be Told: I have a child with Special Needs
Network: TLC
Date: September 16, 2009
Time: 9/8pm central

There are 3 families on our episode. One of the other families, I have had the privilege to get to know on facebook. Her daughter has Autism. They are a very special family! I can't wait to get to know the 3rd family as well. We hope that you will watch and/or set your DVRs! We can't wait to see it!

I am so excited to be able to watch TLC the night you will be on. I have enjoyed reading your blog even though I do not know you in person. I even wrote it down and will be letting my neighbor know as she has a child with Down Syndrome.

Oh wow, how cool is that! I'll be able to remember it, since it is the same day as Kayla's T&A surgery! Hopefully she won't have to stay overnight. Laurie will be bugging me, though, because she has lately become obsessed with being on TV. And when she sees people she's actually met on TV, I'll never hear the end of it!!!

I'm so glad this went through. When I saw the casting call I just immediately thought of your family, and everything y'all have gone through! Congratulations! Can't wait to watch!
