At the beginning of our adoption process, we had someone ask us why we didn't just look into foster care. There are A LOT of children in the foster care system... waiting for families... some just on a short term basis. This isn't what God was calling US to do, but it could be what God is calling YOU to do. When I was in college I babysat for a family with 5 kids in foster care, and they were so fun! The kids were all so different and made the family such a unique mix. I loved going over there and spending time with them.
Here are some different stories about families who chose to become foster parents. If this is where God is leading you, check into it! I guarantee you will be blessed!
Hi Renee - I just ran across your blog through a news reader. We have birth and adopted children, including one with DS. I look forward to following you and your family through your blog.
In my country, we don't have the concept of foster home. At least as far as I know.
Instead there is a system where there are villages/colonies with a lot of houses. In each house, about ten or more children stay. And, a woman is assigned to take care of the children in the house. She is the mother to the kids. They live like a family. The boys are allowed to stay in the house only until they are about ten years old and then they are sent to school hostels. And, they visit during holidays or festivals.
One of my friends grew up in a house like this. He loves his foster mother just like his own mother and also loves his brothers and sisters who stayed there with him. He is now employed oversees. But, he just wants to get back home so that he can take care of his aging mother. Whenever he comes here during holidays, he still visits his brothers and sisters, who are all now settled with their own families now.
Don't know why! Just felt like sharing the story with you.

Welcome!
Welcome to my blog where I take on day to day life with my five amazing children: Kassidy, Kameron, Kennedy, Keeghan & Kellsey, and a husband in the Military. Join us as we face issues with Down syndrome, Leukemia, Deployments, and every day life with 5 young kids! You'll be in for the ride of your life!
Really, what can I say about ME? I'm a Christian, a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin, a friend.
My name is Renee, I am 32 years old, I am married to the Army... oh wait I mean I'm married to a Soldier, my hero. Same thing right? I am a misplaced Californian who lives in Colorado by way of Tennessee. I am a mini-van driving soccer mom... I always knew I would be! I am blessed to be able to stay home with my 5 amazing kids. Kassidy: my beautiful, too smart for her own good, funny, dramatic 12 year old who thinks she's already a teenager. Kameron: My high strung, incredibly intelligent, artistic, creative, silly, sometimes mysterious 10 year old comedian in training. My 7 year old diva, Kennedy: who will sometimes tell you she's Hannah Montana or iCarly or some other famous person. She's destined for the stars! Keeghan: my crazy, funny, silly, handsome 4 year old monkey who loves to ask me a million questions all day long; and our 5 year old magna doodle loving Ukrainian Princess Kellsey who's been with our family for just 2 years now. I'm so incredibly blessed.
