Making a list...

checking it twice... I've decided I better start thinking about Christmas shopping for the kids. I usually have most of it done by now, and this year? I have bought 2 things. One game for Kass and/or Kam and one thing for Keeghan. Yeah, I'm slacking. Truth is, I'm not too sure what to get them, especially the older 2.

I asked Kassidy what she would like for Christmas and she said, without hesitation, "an iPhone!" Uhhh yeah. NOT happening! First of all, she has no one to call. Second of all, she already HAS an iPod Touch which pretty much does everything the iPhone does, except the phone part, which brings me back to my point of her having no one to call. And she's 10. No phone. Just stick me in the "mean parent" corner.

Seriously though, it's hard to know what to get her, she's in that weird place between toys and teenager stuff. Clothes are still boring to her (though she loves the store Justice but is not quite willing to spend HER money on their clothes, and well, I'm not willing to spend MY money there either! haha), and she mentioned some "Littlest Pet Shop" toy, but I can't remember the last time I've seen her play with her other ones... Kennedy plays with them more than she does. She doesn't really "play" anymore. She reads a lot, but we have TONS of books and she's always bringing new ones home from school, and she plays with her iPod a lot. SO what should I buy her?!

Kameron is hard too... he has so much "stuff". He doesn't want to get rid of anything, EVER. He plays with it ALL, but it ends up ALL over his room! LOL And everything he has has lots of "parts". Is this a boy thing?! LOL I'm thinking so. He is very into imaginative play. He will stay in his room for hours making up games and stories and lining up his toys. He's very artistic. He likes transformers, but he has a bunch and he usually resorts back to things he can play pretend with... like his tots. Any ideas for a creative kid who already has "stuff"? LOL

I'm thinking about getting Keeghan and Kellsey this.
They can play with it together and make loud beautiful music together. Anyone have this? Feedback?

I'm also getting Keeghan this.

Yo Gabba Gabba AND educational. What more could a 2 year old ask for?! LOL

And I'm thinking about getting Kennedy this.

She LOVES playing dress up. What better than being able to choose her princess?! It's good for her OT skills too :). AND I'm sure Miss Kellsey will get some use out of it as well! ;)

As for Kellsey, I'm not sure... I'm going to wait for her to come home, get over the toy shock that I'm SURE will ensue here lol and see what she picks as her favorites for right now. We know she likes to color, we know she likes to watch TV, and we know she likes bubbles... hopefully she'll show us quickly what her favorites are, but something tells me she's going to like the wrapping paper and boxes best of all! ;)

SO what's on your Christmas list for the kids this year? We're definitely NOT going overboard, but I'd love to find things that the older two will LOVE, you know? Some of you out there must have good ideas for an 8 and 10 year old! I'd love to hear if you have fabulous ideas for the younger ones too! My ideas are totally not set in stone! LOL

Legos for Kameron ... not a kit that shows step-by-step how to build something ... he's too creative for that ... but a big box of Legos that can become anything.

My tween granddaughter loves to shampoo her hair. We gave her a tote for her birthday. It had hair care products, including a huge bottle of shampoo. Her parents were grateful because she had been using up their supply.

Micah (8) is getting a used copy of the entire Series of Unfortunate Events. He really has too many books already (if there is such a thing), however, he loves that series and loves to read.

Paul (6) is getting clothes for his build-a-bears. He has the bears, but doesn't have clothes and really wants them.

I have that same problem since our kids are very similar in age. Taylor is really about out of the toy stage. She loves getting clothes and stuff from Bath and Body Works! She also loves to do crafts. ITunes gift cards are a great gift. Santa is bring the older kids a Wii as they are the last kids on the planet to receive one :) I don't know what to get Madison yet...I need ideas. Would Kameron enjoy building model ships/cars/planes/etc? Hoping you get some great ideas so I can "borrow" them :)

What about an iTunes gift card for Kass? My husband loved having that to be able to buy some apps for his iTouch. He also bought some music too. Even a $20 card would be awesome I bet to her. I remember being at that awkward stage and my mom bought me a gift certificate for the mall. I think it was maybe $50 but to me I felt like a millionaire and I could use it at any place I wanted at the mall. We had a special day to go out and shop and have lunch. It was awesome!

I guess I will be in the mean parent corner with you b/c that is what Ragan wants to and I just say there is never a time that I do not know where you are....and you are welcome to use our house phone (not that she even talks on the phone except to MiMi, lol)
Im sure they both have Nintendo DS???That keeps the girls busy plus they can play each other.
I think they get harder as they get older....we are planning a trip to Disney on the 12th of Dec so that will be a lot of our gift to them.
We are also getting season tickets to LSU gynmastics....maybe you could get some type of tickets to soemthing around your area. Not fun to poen but its fun when you go. Of course Snata always brings stuff (american girl dolls and tractor jeep for W etc)
Im sure Kennedy will love the costumes, you are going to have such a fun christmas!

Does Kass have a favorite author especially of a series. Deb was about that age when she discover Lois Gladys Leppard's Mandie books. She has 30+ and is still collecting them at 26. She was/is into the original Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys.

What about a kindle(think that is spelled right). Where you can upload books. I think it's rather pricey--$300.00 or so.

I have no ideas either.

Ditto with the others who said iTunes card (my daughter who is now 15 has liked that for several years), if she likes music. Typically, when Jordan gets a gift card, she then listens to her Ipod for several months till the songs get old to her, then she puts it away till she gets some new music. Also, Jordan has aloved a gift card to mall, but she loves clothes...but maybe at Walmart or Target, somewhere that sells a wide variety if she isn't into clothes. I don't give large gift cards, but when we have given my kids love the experience of going shopping and getting to choose. At first I felt this wasn't choosing a gift and resisted giving gift cards, till I saw how much they enjoyed it, especially my daughter. Also, about that age Jordan was starting to like Bath & Body Works (if you don't feel sure what scent she would like, you might want that one to be a gift card. Seems like it was about that age Jordan started liking to have her room more decorated, and sometimes has gotten practical gifts like new sheets/comforter, lamp, chair.

Boys, no advice there. I have always had a hard time buying for my son...he's 13 and for several years now video games have been something he wants, a drum set (that's what my son got, you might choose another instrument). Good luck!

Renee, I know the feeling when it comes to Kassidy. My Jordyn is 11 and she has everything she needs, and isnt old enough for the stuff she wants. LOL
She does want an I-Pod touch so I am hunting for a good deal on one. Why does Christmas have to be such a challenge?? Emma which is 7 wants nothing but Detroit Lions stuff. Yes, I said it "Detroit Lions" LOL. She is the biggest fan!!

Well happy shopping!! Let us know what you decide.

8 and up with girls is so hard. I’d get her the Polly Pocket she wants, it might get her back into it for even a few weeks lol. It’s so hard, you need to squeeze, a few more “little girl playing” years out of them haha.
What about a new bedspread (bed cover) curtains and / or mat lamps.. For her room.
Boys there is a lot more around this age, is he into those Magnets? Lego (I hate lego lol) boxes for all his stuff lol

I love he table for Keeghan and Kellsey I’ve never seen one like that before. I’d love to come to the US to toy shop lol
You have the littlies covered but we are getting Aden the Tag junior with all the books. We have the regular Tag my boys love it.

I have nieces that age - they are impossible to buy for. They're into Hannah Montana - journals, tshirts, purses... in HM theme. Good luck. I'm ebay shopping for a big doll house for my nearly 4 yr old.

Okay, so I'm totally with you on the 10 year old thing. What do you get them? They both did say they "need" more Barbie stuff. Natalie does still play with the Barbies, but I don't really think there's much more they need in that department. Natalie still loves Hannah Montana, but I was at the Disney store just last week and they had NOTHING Hannah Montana. Oh great! I hate the stuff at Walmart. So I don't know what to do there. I honestly haven't given too much thought to it all though. CJ's easy. Trucks trucks and more trucks. If it has wheels he loves it. If it comes apart and has wheels you're golden. If it comes apart, has wheels, and lights and sounds well he's over the moon with it ;). So simple simple simple there. The girls though I just really have no idea. Aside from Tinkerbell for Kaitlyn and Hannah Montana for Natalie I just don't know. We already got Kaitlyn the new Tinkerbell movie. We'll get a movie for Natalie, but I'm not sure what yet. Maybe Up? I don't know. She is very into the Lemony Snickets series and I hear there's a movie for that so I'll try to find that. I already got them each a book. Like you though it's hard to have more books in the house because they are always getting ones from school and stuff. So I guess I'm not much help. I've wrestled with video game systems for the kids. Well, we already have the Wii. You will have to read my review when I get around to writing it for a new educational Wii game that just came out. That might be a good option for all of the kids. It says it's for ages 5-9, but Natalie really enjoys it too and even finds it a bit challenging. I go back and forth on a computer for Natalie. I'm afraid she'd always be playing games on it. Too hard to monitor it if it's in her room. Not that we'd give her internet access, but I'm afraid of the fights it would cause. It's definitely a difficult age to buy for. Natalie's ears are pierced so I might get her a pair of earrings or two. She loves jewelry though so that always goes over well with both girls actually.

My niece and nephews this year are all kind of out of the toys age and all want media type things, but whats also on all of their lists is an instrument. Is Kassidy into any kind of instrument? Because this would be the perfect time to start a new hobby :) I began my love for music right around her age and would have loved to get a musical instrument...or sewing machine LOL I know, I was a product of homeschooling :)
But those are both really good hobbies to start and to invest in...and she may take interest in one of them...there is no harm in asking ;)

What about a digital camera? My nieces are the same age and would LOVE one. :)

All three of my kids who are 12,10 & 9 all want a ripstick. My 9 year old wants a scrapebook kit,my 12 yr. old wants an I-Home and my 10 yr. old wants Lego's. My two younger ones want a snuggie. They all want sorry sliders and a game for their Wii. Our Christmas will be different this year as we are traveling to Montana by vehicle. Good Luck with ideas. My kids all made a list. I am doing a lot of online shopping and then shipping it to my in-laws.

I'm loving the sewing machine idea for Kassidy. (But I love to sew myself so...) Not a "play" one, but you can get a "real" basic one for under $100. Sometimes like $50 the day after Thanksgiving at Wal-Mart. And a basket with "fun" fabric, thread, buttons, patterns maybe. This would have been my dream as a kid!! No ideas for Kameron - sorry.... no boys in my life :(

I'd get Kassidy an iTunes gift card. that way she can feel a bit like she's independent going into the iTunes store to get music.

Buying for 5 certainly stretches the budget! I almost choked when I saw the suggestion of the Kindle. Gee, I am feeling guilty wanting one of those for myself.

Then my 14 yr old. wants a new cell, dj hero, wwe vs smakcdown for psp, clothes, skates and mp3 player.
Im almost done with xmas... YAY!!

Well, we don't do Christmas, and Chanukkah is low key as far as gifts go, but my eldest boy (10) will get a kid cook book, apron, and some silicone kitchen stuff, as well as an iTunes gift card and an Amazon gift certificate. We are learning about online security, and shopping online is part of that.

My 6-year-olds are getting a mess box, that is a collection of art supplies with which they can make a mess. And LEGO's.

With Kassidy you might consider taking her somewhere as her gift. Concert or something like that.

Since my four kids are the same ages as yours (especially #2 and #3) - I don't have a "Kellsey group" LOL - I am reading this with a LOT of interest!! Arline still wants American Girl dolls so she is getting Ivy because she already has Julie and Ivy is Julie's friend. She has an iPod Shuffle (that was a "regift" from Jason's work present) but she and Aidan want iPods. Both of the boys really want Nintendo DS. (That doesn't mean they're getting all of these things LOL) Maybe an iTouch would be good for them. Aidan wants games, both board games and for the PS2. Legos are always a winner for the boys here. Arline also likes journals, craft supplies, books... clothes are her absolute favorite so can't leave that totally out. I think iTunes gift cards are a good idea and lately we have been giving Borders gift cards for birthday presents since you never know what books a kid has read. Ava is getting a Fisher Price "Little Mommy" doll that I think looks like her. The Little People sets are good for her age group. She might like that Yo Gabba Gabba toy you are getting Keeghan because that is her FAVORITE show along with SpongeBob. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

Not sure what your budget is, but i got my 10 yr old niece a kindle from amazon for her birthday last month and she loves it (like Kass she is a reader).

Hey I seen the dress up trunk you are thinking about and thought I'd tell you that they are made AWFUL! You can't wash them without them falling apart, they are very itchy, and run small. I did a lot of research a couple of years ago when my girls were in that stage and found the perfect dresses on ebay. They are more expensive but have been through that washing machine many times and played with outside in the trees most of the time and still look awesome. Oh yeah, and they don't itch and they can put them on independently. Here's the link - the store name is "mydressuptrunk." I would send you our old ones but my 7 and 10 year old still wear them...and dress up Alex in them too :)

BTW I really like that music table! What a great idea!

My 10 year old is by far the hardest to buy for. So far, I've picked up 2 small things. He likes watching the Discovery channel, so I bought him an experiment kit from Myth Busters. It has everything in the kit to do a bunch of different experiments. I also bought him a kit to make recycled paper. That's all I've got so far....and I have NO ideas!

I know Kass is getting older, but I think she still has some "little girl" left in her! Have you ever seen the "Only Hearts Club" dolls? here's a link: http://www.onlyheartsclub.com/ They are PERFECT for that age group. They are reasonable in price and very relatable in a good way. (Not like bratz!) Another idea is buying plain tee-shirts and iron-on's. JoAnn's Fabrics has t-shirts that are $3-$4 and THE cutest iron-on decals. Lots of cool Christian decals, also lots of "green" decals. Really sweet! Another idea, a box with pre-purchased movie tickets and some boxes of candy and/or coupons for popcorn. Then make a "Mommy/Daddy & Me" date card! Some time alone with a parent is priceless and with all of the change in your little family, each child will love having some alone time with a parent! Lots of craft products for ALL of the kids would be fun and a teaching/learning process for the 3 little-K's...crayons, glue sticks, safety scissors! And, aprons to protect their clothes! Flashlights are ALWAYS fun! Fleece fabric to make tie-blankets! AREN'T YOU GLAD YOU ASKED FOR IDEAS? Love You, Renee! God Bless! JO

I saw these while looking for gifts for my cousins, and thought of Kameron.

They also have a lot of other cool toys, espcially things for imaginative play. Hope this helps!

What about craft kits for the older ones? I used to enjoy the "learn to cross stitch" or "learn to needlepoint" kits and just recently got rid of my small weaving loom! I've also seen little kits for making those knotted felt blankets and pillows that are fun. Also, the American Girl stuff is great

I also noticed a "creepy crawler" maker at Toys R Us. My brother had one when he was Kam's age (and now he's finishing up college!) and he and I both loved playing with it.

Renee,
Where r u thinking of gettting that dress up trunk from? Im looking for 1 and wanting to see if I can get a great deal.
