Kellsey has been home for one month today! She is settling in so well and getting comfortable! She has experienced SO many new things in the last month... bowling, shopping malls, trips to Wal-Mart, Target, and several restaurants, lots of car rides, CHRISTMAS!, the church kid's area, staying up until midnight for New Year's, and much more! Overall Kellsey is fitting in well here! She is getting more and more comfortable every day. She is still not speaking many words in English, but she understands everything we say. Like any 3 year old, there are times that she follows directions, and there are times when she will look us in the eye and do the opposite of what we want with an oh so defiant look on her face! HA! She is testing her limits and learning her place in the family.
Kellsey is eating MUCH better! We've found lots of stuff that she loves now and she looks forward to meal time immensely! We have noticed that she's slimmed down some though, probably because she's not eating so many carbs and starches like she did in the orphanage. She is also finally drinking more! It took awhile, but we finally found a cup she loves. She prefers water to anything, which is fine by us!
Our hardest time continues to be night time. She goes to bed easily and goes right to sleep, but she still wakes up in the middle of the night most nights and rolls around and scratches on her bed and just makes a lot of noise. If we tell her to stop, she will, for about 15 minutes or so, but she's often awake up to two hours. It's hard, but we're praying it's a short lived phase.
Kellsey loves any toy that involves music and she loves to sing songs. As soon as she hears music she will start dancing. She has the cutest dance which involves just bopping her head to the beat and not moving her body at all. We now call this "The Kellsey" and we all do it often! HA! I'll have to try to get it on video soon. She knows the hand motions to "itsy bitsy spider" and is learning to point out all her body parts.
Kellsey is very affectionate towards us. She loves to give hugs and kisses. She loves to lay in someone's lap and have her head rubbed. If we make her mad though, or if she gets into trouble, she will roll her eyes at us. It was cute the first few days... now... not so much! HA! Pretty sure she'll be rolling those beautiful eyes at us forever.
The kids are all adjusting great! Kennedy is very loving toward Kellsey... she gives her lots of hugs and kisses and dotes on her often. We still say, "Stop petting her!" a lot! LOL She still gets frustrated that Kellsey won't play babies with her, but that day is coming, I'm sure!
Keeghan and Kellsey love to play with their musical toys and run all over the house making a mess together. They also love to fight over the same toy at the same time! HA! Many times though, Keeghan will give a toy to Kellsey and proudly say, "We're SHARING, Mommy!"
Kassidy is the ultimate awesome big sister. Kellsey already thinks the sun rises and sets in her. She watches Kassidy closely and looks up to her a lot. Kassidy is always available for lots of hugs, kisses and love... and sometimes she'll even share her iPod ;).
Kameron is the fun, goofy one. He'll wrestle with Kellsey and tickle her and make her laugh... when she's had enough though she is sure to let him know! They take each other on in small doses! :)
In some ways it feels like Kellsey just got home and in others it feels like she's been part of our family forever! I am so thankful she is here, even when I'm exhausted from no sleep, it's ALL worth it! I can't wait to see how she grows in the next year!

I can't say it enough, Renee, I am so happy for your family. It seems that Kellsey is fitting right in.
Do you think that she gets up in the night and just plays around quietly because she spent so much time in her crib as a baby in the orphanage? I wonder if it will be a much harder habit to break if this is the case because she has been doing it for so long. Have other parents who have adopted children from the same place had problems like this?
Awww too sweet..
I cannot believe it has been a month already!!!! WOW!!

I am so happy for you and your family! Kellsey is so beautiful, and I'm so thrilled at the fact that the kids are playing and interacting so well with her. Renee, your family has been so blessed with her!
Can't wait to hear how she grows and develops in the next year either! :)
Hi Renee
Glad to hear things are going well and Kellsey is adjusting to life as a Garcia. Just a thought about the sleeping...my best friend adopted 2 little girls internationally. One from Vietnam(my god-daughter) and one from China....
I remember when the girls were first home (they were under a year though) that they didn't stay sleeping at night because when they woke up it was too quiet, they were not used to total darkness and quiet. I remember my friend having to play a radio in the oldest's bedroom to have her sleep....and it worked! She just needed some background noise at all times. Not sure if this was the case at Kellsey's baby home....and I know she was in the room with you and Frank so it may be difficult....but it's a thought?
Enjoy every moment with that smiley girl!

I am so happy to hear that she is adjusting so well. :) I'm glad she's fitting in with her siblings and that everyone adores her. :) She is just beautiful!

Praying in Seattle!
Romans 5:4-6 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Wow, a month already! Thank you for sharing her with us. =)
Hard to believe it's been a month. But she really does seem to just fit right in with you all. It's amazing how much like the other kids she looks too. I see a little bit of each of the kids in her ;). So glad to hear she's settling in so well.
I know you worry about her waking up the girls if you move her into their room, but let me tell you when we had CJ in our room every sound Joe and I made in our bed would wake him up and he would want to be in bed with us. Once we moved him into his own room he seemed to sleep soundly through the night. It's possible the girls wouldn't even hear Kellsey's tossing and fidgeting and it wouldn't even bother them and you all might get some much needed rest. Just a thought. Might be better too to get her adjusted to her room before Frank deploys for a year.
So glad that Kellsey is adjusting so well. She sure looks happy:) Happy New Year.......may it be filled with good health, love and laughter!
It feels like last week she was coming home. Glad the adjustment has gone so smooth. She has such a pretty smile.
Aw, thanks for this. Kellsey is precious. I loved hearing about all the things she is doing and learning and about the kids together. I am looking forward to writing an at-home update someday, too :)!
She sounds so much like Nika. Nika lost weight when we brought her home too ... I also owned it up to the fact that she wasn't getting all the carbs and starches that she got in the baby home. Plus she started walked soon after and became mobile! She just had her annual today and she has only gained like 2 lbs since we have had her home, which is concerning to ME, but nobody else seems to be concerned. LOL.
And the sleeping. Ugh. I think Nika still wakes in the middle of the night and hangs out. It is so strange! The other night I heard her at like 1am and yes, she is so noisy! I have to shut her bedroom door, or she'd wake us all.
I'm not sure how I managed it but I completely missed her coming home!! That is awesome! I am so glad that Kellsey has a loving fabulous family like you guys! HUGS all round!
already?! that's great to hear how well the transition is going and that she's settling right in with her family!
